Self-Help is a leading community development financial institution (CDFIs) with a mission of creating and protecting economic opportunity for all, with a particular emphasis on people of color, women, and residents of low-wealth and rural areas. Through the operation of our credit unions and a non-profit loan fund, Self-Help has provided over $6.4 billion to help more than 75,000 low-wealth borrowers buy homes, start and build businesses, and strengthen community resources across the country in North Carolina, California and now Chicago.  Self-Help's affiliate, the Center for Responsible Lending, researches and advocates for state and national legislation to address predatory lending practices and policies.
