Solidarity Economy Assembly Recap: In case you missed it — this past July, over 160+ NEC members and partners gathered for four days in Durham, NC for the Solidarity Economy Assembly for our Futures! For four days we learned, built in place, connected and felt the joy and magic that just happens when people gather. We made time to hear what is happening across our members’ regions, share what we are learning, and begin taking steps toward a renewed strategic orientation for NEC as a coalition. Organizing for Climate Survival: As our climate, political, and economic crises deepen, NEC member organization The Climate Mobilization is getting serious about how we organize our neighborhoods for survival. Learn how they are bringing together a cohort of young Black, Indigenous, and POC climate organizers to build local disaster response networks that both “[meet] people’s immediate needs and [create] the relationships that make organizing possible.” Download their new Before the Storm Toolkit to get concrete tools and ideas for how to prepare your community for the upcoming super El Niño season.
Futures Free of State Terror: This year marks 25 years of the War on Terror — a period marked by endless wars, an expansion of US imperialism, and mass community surveillance. As Darakshan Raja of NEC member Muslims for Just Futures (MJF) writes, “the state’s project was never simply to police individuals: it was to consistently fracture the spaces where marginalized communities gathered to learn, belong, build power, and imagine different futures.” Check out MJF’s new tool to organize community assemblies to reflect on the impacts of the War on Terror, as well as NEC member Shareable’s new toolkit on how to kick out Flock and stop mass surveillance.

Nepal Demands Climate Reparations: Following deadly flooding caused by glacial collapse in the Himalayas, government leaders in Nepal have called for $20 million in reparations from the international Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD). Since its founding at the UN Climate Change Conference in 2022, at least 119 Global South countries have submitted requests from the FRLD, but no money has been dispersed. Eyes on Sudan: Amidst brutal fighting, heavy rains, and mass displacement, UN officials are warning that Sudan’s aid networks are in imminent danger of collapse. Support the Emergency Response Rooms that have been providing critical aid to local Sudanese communities since 2023, and learn more about the counter-revolutionary war that is underpinning this crisis.
Artisan Co-ops for Migrant Women in India: After facing decades of exploitation from predatory middlemen, grassroots cooperatives like the Society to Uplift Rural Economy (SURE) are supporting Pakistani craftswomen in Rajasthan to take ownership of their labor and receive the full value of their work. Read more about how these women’s cooperatives are helping to break cycles of exploitation and improve artists’ quality of life.
