Shavaun Evans is Co-Director and Membership Director for the New Economy Coalition. She brings to NEC nearly a decade of coalition-building experience and a deep understanding of the power of grassroots networks to change systems and policies. For eight years, she mobilized coalitions of farmers and community advocates to challenge harmful agricultural policies and build more sustainable, community-controlled food and farm systems. Shavaun currently lives in her hometown of Louisville, KY, where she collaborates with her friends, family, and neighbors to create and rebuild spaces and systems that reflect the needs of their community. She is a founding Board member of the Black-led childcare collective, Play Cousins Collective; a member of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth; and a yoga instructor. She received her undergraduate degree in English at Centre College in Danville, KY and her graduate degree in Community Development Action at Vanderbilt University.
