Position Summary
NEC is seeking a full-time (32 hours / week) Resource Mobilization Director for its Resource Organizing circle. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to racial, economic, and environmental justice, and will have skill sets at the intersections of organizing, individual giving, major donor giving, campaign management, and communications.
The RMD’s main objective is to grow a cross-class, multi-racial network of people moving resources towards both the New Economy Coalition and the broader solidarity economy movement. Primary responsibilities are two-fold:
- Develop and execute NEC’s resource mobilization strategy through managing our philanthropic partnerships, major donor relationships, and grassroots giving campaigns. Additional key roles include managing gift processing, donor acknowledgment, and maintaining donor records in our database. NEC currently has an annual budget of just over $2M and this role is responsible for securing the vast majority of those funds.
- Grow the scale of resources moving towards NEC members and the broader solidarity economy movement through supporting NEC’s member-led Movement Resourcing working group, participating in / developing cross-coalitional funder organizing spaces, hosting office hours, and maintaining the Funding Solidarity Roundup.
In short, we’re not just looking for a fundraiser. We’re looking for a network-builder, an organizer, and a development strategist. At NEC, these responsibilities fall under a wider objective of resource organizing; the work of growing a politically-activated, cross-class, multi-racial base to resource the solidarity economy movement.
As our friends at Grassroots International recently wrote: “By choosing organizing beyond fundraising, donor identities shift from being primarily wealth holders, to becoming trusted partners to movements, as an aligned and organized political ally constituency” (Solidarity Philanthropy, page 48). More examples of resource organizing that inspire us can be found here, here & here.
This is a full-time (32 hrs/week), salaried position, and can be performed remotely from anywhere in the U.S. This position requires someone to be able to perform tasks on a computer for up to 8 hours a day, inclusive of paid breaks. Our work is rigorous, but we prioritize space for joy, for healing, and connection.
