Title: Interim IT Manager
Classification: Part-Time, Temporary, Exempt
Location: Remote, U.S. for New Economy Coalition (NEC), a worker self-directed nonprofit.
Compensation: Salary based on compensation policy – expected equivalent ~$40-50/hr
Time Commitment: 24 hours/week until Dec 31, 2023
Start Date: ASAP – ideal start date is by May 2023. We will review applications on a rolling basis. 

WHO IS NEC? 

New Economy Coalition (NEC) is building the power and scale of the solidarity economy movement in the United States. Our national network of 150+ members are transforming the current system — creating in its place an economy that places power in the hands of people, uproots legacies of harm, and preserves the planet. Our members represent a diverse cross-section of the solidarity economy movement, from worker cooperative developers and technical assistance providers, to community loan funds and policy advocates.

NEC is a fully remote organization. The person in this position may be expected to travel within the United States several times a year to staff retreats or conferences. This role requires extended use of a computer. Working hours are flexible but the person should be available between 12-4pm Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays for staff meetings and support. This person should be able to work on a computer for 6-8 hours per day. This person should be excited about working at a worker self-directed nonprofit, where there is a lot of flexibility and responsibility for the organization’s health placed on all staff. This role will be eligible to participate in NEC’s healthcare and other benefits, which will be outlined in the interview process. 

SUMMARY

NEC is seeking a part-time IT Manager to support our 14-person remote staff. This person would handle daily IT needs, short-term IT projects, and building long-term IT infrastructure. This person would also help cover for the IT Manager while they are transitioning into and out of a 12-week sabbatical this summer. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary contact for IT systems maintenance and troubleshooting issues with staff as they arise, including preventative maintenance (40%)
    • Respond promptly to staff “help desk tickets” through Asana 
    • Add IT tasks to Asana and implement as needed 
    • Provide IT/tech support for external-facing NEC activities including member meetings and support 
    • Preventative and proactive maintenance and following tech news for potential issues that might affect the organization
    • Remind staff to engage in digital security standards like changing passwords
    • Clean out old information in platforms and make sure they’re organized
  • Maintaining IT systems, accounts, reporting, and infrastructure, including  providing/ creating trainings as needed (40%) 
    • Sit on the Membership Systems Circle and support member systems needs (including data management and list management)  
    • Do an analysis of our systems (after a few months of onboarding) to recommend more elegant ways of working together 
    • Implement NEC’s WISP & supervise organizational digital security contractors 
    • Develop new procedures & workflows in collaboration with other staff
    • Create or collect mini-trainings for staff as needed (documents, videos, resource library, small group live trainings, etc) 
    • Maintain laptop inventory & IT-related accounts 
  • Participation in staff meetings, project teams, and other activities as specified (20%)
    • Contribute to IT budget development during yearly budgeting process 
    • Contribute to conversations around Movement Tech goals and activities 
    • Attend all staff meetings and activities, including governance or ad hoc needs
    • Participate in Slack & other digital spaces when working 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of formal education, paid work experience, unpaid/volunteer experience, and life experience will be considered to meet the following:

  • 5+ years of experience leading non-profit operations and technology.
  • Proficiency with Google Workplace, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, AirTable, Powerbase, Word Press, Action Network, Asana project management tools.
  • Knowledge of digital security best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in building internal systems which are transparent, efficient, and accountable.
  • Strong time management skills, self-motivated with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Understanding of and commitment to solidarity economy values, such as racial, economic, and climate justice; cooperative ownership; democratic governance; and systems change.
  • Experience in democratically-governed spaces, or a desire to learn as part of one
