Creative Wildfire is launching a national open call for artists to apply to the 2023-24 cohort! Artists, storytellers, and cultural workers will receive $2000-7800 (depending on scope of the project they develop during the program) to create powerful, strategic work with frontline climate & economic justice organizations.
Applications are due Tuesday, May 30th and the cohort will take place June 2023-March 2024. Please help us share this opportunity with your community, organization, social media followers, and networks!
Creative Wildfire is a cultural organizing project of New Economy Coalition, Climate Justice Alliance, and Movement Generation. Remember the rad art that came out of the last cohort? This year we’ll bring together artists and grassroots organizations to center relationship building, artistic collaboration, and locally impactful distribution. Their creations will inspire us to resist extractive systems and build regenerative economies where all can thrive.
Seven artists will be matched with grassroots organizations working for climate and economic justice: Boston Ujima Project, Cooperation New Orleans, Crip Survival Network, Food For the Spirit, Micronesia Climate Change Alliance, Richmond Our Power Coalition and The Farmworker Association of Florida. We especially welcome BIPOC and disabled artists, as well as artists living in regions where our organizational partners are based: Boston, MA; Buffalo, NY; Micronesia; New Orleans, LA; Florida; and Richmond, CA.
As we reflected on art that has transformed our movements, one of the themes was art that uplifts ‘hidden histories’ and helps us remember our way forward. These stories are ‘hidden’ in the sense that they may have been buried by the dominant paradigm, but they are powerful beacons to imagine and organize ourselves free. Interested in partnering with a grassroots organization and creating art inspired by their hidden histories? Learn more & apply at bit.ly/CWapply.
