OUR WORK & PROGRAMS

MEMBER GATHERINGS & GOVERNANCE

We convene our members to build trusting relationships, practice collective decision-making, and develop a culture of peer-to-peer learning and mutual aid.

ANNUAL MEMBER MEETINGS

Since 2022, we’ve hosted our annual All Member Meeting virtually! Last year, over 175 members from nearly 100 organizations tuned in from all around the country for three days of virtual programming, relationship building, and workshops. Highlights included getting skilled up on fighting facism with solidarity, hearing from our Creative Wildfire cohort about how to build with artists as organizers, a member-led workshop on participatory action research, and beautiful live performances.

DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE

NEC is a member-led network and worker self directed non-profit! We strive to have all important decisions be directly shaped by the needs of members. We do this through member votes and direct decision-making, member representation on the Board of directors, member leadership of working groups, and more.

MEMBER WORKING GROUPS

In our network, working groups are member-led spaces to support leadership development, practice participatory decision-making, offer peer support, and collaborate across organizations to build and strengthen solidarity economies. We currently have seven active working groups:

ARTS, CULTURE & CARE IN THE SOLIDARITY ECONOMY

BLACK RADICAL DEMOCRACY  WORKING GROUP

BLACK SOLIDARITY ECONOMY FUND GRANTMAKING COMMITTEE

CAREGIVERS CONNECT

COMMUNICATIONS WORKING GROUP

EDUCATORS CONNECT

MOVEMENT RESOURCING WORKING GROUP

Launching our 2023 Member Dues Drive

Giving dues reflects all the benefits of being a member, and materially shows that members collectively own this network! Building out recurring dues is also the most effective way to ensure that our movement is both well-resourced and in alignment with our values of a people’s economy, rather than working at the whims of philanthropy.
