The People’s Guide to the Budget

Mar 1, 2017 | Resources

The People’s Guide to the Budget was created to help Louisville residents learn more about their local budget, how public money is spent, and how they can influence how the city spends its money. Citizen researchers, residents, and members of the Jefferson County Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC) came together to learn more about the budget process and what it takes to influence it. They decided to create the guide to help answers those questions and provide a tool for other residents. Authors hope The People’s Guide to the Budget will equip Louisville residents to take action to help create a more equitable and more democratic budget. The report includes action steps that Louisville residents can take to have an influence on the budget, including contacting their councilperson or Mayor's office. The guide focuses on Louisville, KY, but may be useful for other communities looking to better understand and outline their city's budget process.
