Two years ago, a dear friend asked if I'd submit my name for consideration for New Economy Coalition’s board. I jumped at the chance because I believed in NEC’s power to usher in a new economic way forward.

NEC's talented staff of organizers find groups across the country who, like my organization (Mountain Association for Community Economic Development), which is building thriving local economies in my native Appalachia, are forging a path to a just and sustainable way of life in their communities. NEC connects us so that we may all work together in a smarter-not-harder kind of way.

It's been a joy to be a part of NEC and to get to know the staff and learn about and from the incredible just transition work happening all over the country. NEC’s role in the future economy—the one so many of us are working to build in our communities day in and day out—is integral.
